Operator  - Backford North- Part Time- FTC

 

About the role

 

Working as part of the Backford site & Operation teams to enable  24/7, 365 operational services to control, receipt, handling, storage & delivery of Aviation fuel safely, effectively.

Key Responsibilities

  • Through your actions & the completion of assigned responsibilities, provide
  • Operations safe, efficient terminal operations including pipeline receipts, tank to tank transfer, road tanker receipts & road tanker loading.
  • Communicate with all terminal staff to enable effective terminal operations. Ensure a smooth, effective and documented handover is completed.
  • Contribute to terminal operational procedure reviews and updates.
  • Highlight any areas for amendment, updating and/or improvement. 
  • Comply with all terminal operational & safety rules. Take an active role in driving terminal safety culture.  Participate in SHE audits including driver and contractor audits.
  • Responsibilities including issuing & control of assigned permits, gas testing & isolation checking.
  • Drive Terminal safety culture, completing required training; attending SHE Comms meetings & completing assigned SHE responsibilities including completion of SHE driver & contractor audits.

  • Ensure that operational records are accurately and comprehensively completed.
  • Complete sampling activities including analysis of product quality.
  • Treat all terminal users as valued customers. Respond to queries and requests from the client, employees & customers politely and diligently.
  • Present Backford as a customer focused operation.
  • Complete terminal housekeeping responsibilities.
  • Work with the terminal maintenance team to complete assigned tasks & support including safe and timely preparation of equipment for shutdowns, maintenance and re-commissioning.
  • Complete assigned training within required timeframes to ensure competence is continually updated & maintained. 

 

About You

The ideal candidate will have relevant qualifications (NVQ Level 2 or equivalent, GCSEs in Maths and English), experience in regulated industries, and strong operational, maintenance, and safety knowledge. They’ll be proactive, resilient, and able to work independently, with skills in coaching, communication, problem-solving, and data reporting. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and terminal ICT systems, a full clean driving license, and flexibility for 24/7 shift cover are also required. Desirable experience includes staff management, ONC in engineering or process disciplines, a time-served apprenticeship, coaching or team leader qualification, and operational work in oil, gas, or petrochemical industries—especially at COMAH sites. Training in commissioning, first aid, manual handling, and COSHH is also preferred.
