Assistant Cathodic Protection Engineer- Flexible location travel to different sites

 

About the role

As a Cathodic Protection Engineer, you will act as the technical authority ensuring pipelines, piping, and other buried structures are protected against corrosion. You’ll evaluate inspection data, develop remediation plans, and design new or upgraded CP systems for both simple and complex structures. This role involves providing technical support to projects, operations, and maintenance teams, while ensuring compliance with UK/EU legislation and company standards

Key Responsabilities

  • Plan and manage the operation/maintenance of the existing CP system in line with company standards and relevant UK/EU legislation.
  • Plan and manage the programme of the CP projects (implementation of new systems or renewal of current ones) and CP surveys in line with company standards and relevant UK/European legislation.
  • Develop the scope of works/action plans based on 3rd party inspection reports/data.
  • Develop the design of new or upgrade CP systems both for simple and complex structures.
  • Develop financial forecasts for programme of work.
  • Liaise with Scheduling, Operations, Pipeline Technicians, Supervisors, Inspectors, and other stakeholders such as Exolum land agents (Fisher German) and Civil and Mechanical Contractors, to define maintenance windows.
  • Liaise with other members of the Exolum Asset Technical Team on standards & codes.
  • Identify and select suppliers in line with relevant legislation and Company’s procedures.
  • Produce detailed programme of works/Gantt charts etc.
  • Manage documentation/data/records within document management systems.

  • Build strong credible working relationships with all internal stakeholders and in particular HSSEQ as well as with external stakeholders including HSE, EA and UKOPA.
  • Provide project teams with technical support relating to pipeline issues and ad-hoc projects.
  • Liaise with regulatory bodies (e.g. HSE, Environment Agency and Natural England), review and make recommendations on their regulations and strategies to ensure compliance with all aspects of pipeline legislation.
  • To plan and manage a programme of works associated with cathodic protection inspections and coating surveys.
  • Ensure activities completed are fully compliant with company policies, procedures and legal requirements, particularly safety and ensuring safe systems of work.
  • Ensure integrity investment decisions are always in the best interest of the company’s long term future.

About you

You will be degree-qualified in an engineering discipline and have proven experience in cathodic protection inspection and project design, ideally within the oil industry or a similarly regulated environment (COMAH). Strong communication skills, stakeholder management, and the ability to develop innovative solutions are essential. Knowledge of international CP codes and UK legislation (ATEX, COMAH, CDM) is highly desirable.
