SME Electrical Engineer - Homeworker
About the role
We are looking for a new Electrical Engineer who will be flexible (with travel to NEW Terminal and Pipeline Network Locations) and will report into the UK & IRE Engineering Manager. Acting as Technical Authority for electrical systems and equipment the successful candidate will, ensure risks to safe operation are recognised, assessed, and appropriately mitigated, provide technical support, leadership and guidance to projects, operations, and maintenance. This role is responsible for plant modifications, preparing designs and specifications for new electrical systems and equipment.
Key Responsibility
- Responsible for the application of appropriate electrical engineering codes and standards and management of any deviations from standards.
Site Electrical Equipment includes: Power Transformers, HV/LV Switchgear Air, Vacuum and Oil, HV/LV distribution, ATEX and FLP Motors, Motor Starters, HV / LV VSDs, Soft Starts, UPSs, Hazardous Area Cabling/Containment/Junction Boxes and Earthing and Bonding Systems.
- Responsible for all electrical equipment/system performance standards.
- Designated Electrical Competent Person under Electricity at Work Regulations.
- Provide assurance to the UK & IRE Engineering Manager that the MOC process is applied correctly.
- Lead in the identification and scoping of projects and plant modifications.
- Assure Equipment is prioritised for replacement based on maintenance records and known conditions. Prepare cost estimates and business case proposals for electrical equipment/system CAPEX.
- Manage vendors and tenders including responding to vendor clarifications/technical queries. Participate in technical bid evaluations and FATs.
- Working knowledge of Regulations and Directives: DSEAR (ATEX), EWR, EER, Machinery Directive, PUWER, COMAH and CDM.
- Working Knowledge of applicable standards: BS 7671 and BS EN 60079.
- Previous experience of working within MAH environments.
- Work to standards, procedures and work instructions for Safety Critical Tasks in order to meet COMAH requirements. Assessment of Competency will form an ongoing part of this role.
About You
The successful candidate will have a relevant degree in Electrical Engineering, CompEx Design (Ex12), parts A & B. Chartered or working towards chartership with significant electrical system design experience, load lists, SLDs, cable sizing, fault level, protection grading studies and motor starting calculations. Lightning protection calculations. Specification of equipment for installation in Hazardous areas and have, Risk Assessment, Site Commissioning and Troubleshooting experience. Experience as designated competent person under Electricity at Work Regulations. |
In order to succeed in the role you will need a working knowledge of current legislation: DSEAR (ATEX), EWR, EER, Machinery Directive, PUWER, COMAH and CDM. Working Knowledge of applicable codes and standards such as BS 7671 and BS EN 60079 and an awareness of current and new emerging technologies with an ability to develop new ideas and solutions and be a team player and effective communicator.
Experience in a COMAH regulated industry, managing ageing assets, training and mentoring site electricians, design House/EPC/EPCm Contractor and working on technical standards committees are desirable.
